FAQ

What is the difference between an original artwork and a fine art print?

The main difference is that an original artwork is the work that I have painted by hand with high-permanence watercolour pigment and/or ink and a fine art print is a high-definition digital scan of the original artwork that has been reproduced as a giclée fine art print.

What is a giclée fine art print?

Giclée is a printing process done by a professional fine art printing studio where archival quality inks are used to print on acid-free paper. This means that my giclée fine art prints will show minimal signs of aging and stand the test of time.

Will I be able to tell the difference between an original artwork and a fine art print?

No, apart from the paper weight, a slight variation in the colour of the paper and the difference in the medium that I sign the artwork with [watercolour on original artworks / pencil on fine art prints], you will not be able to tell the difference. I spend a lot of time to colour match my fine art prints to the original artwork together with the professional fine art printing studio that I use.

Why do I sign my fine art prints in pencil?

It is a traditional practice in printmaking to sign fine art prints with pencil. I mark all my fine art prints with its edition number, number of total editions, the name of the artwork, my signature and the year the fine art print was produced.

What is the paper weight of an artwork?

The paper weight of an artwork mainly refers to the thickness of the paper that indicates how absorbent the paper will be without wobbling or disintegrating when working with a wet medium such as watercolour. The weight of paper is measured in grams per square metre [gsm]. I always work on acid-free paper that will not become yellow or mouldy after a period of time. In terms of paper weight, I either work on 330gsm Fabriano paper or 300gsm Arches hot pressed paper, depending on how smooth I want the surface to be. Painted detail on a smooth surface is a lot clearer than on a textured surface.

My fine art prints are printed on 200gsm acid-free Felix Schoeller paper that will age just as well as my original artworks. Paper of 200gsm is a bit heavier in weight than what is needed to print on, but I prefer a high quality material that looks and feels more luxurious.

Do I receive my artwork framed?

No, your artwork will be beautifully wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and secured in a mailing tube. All artworks displayed on this website as framed is for advertising purposes only. We do not currently offer framing services.

What type of frame will compliment my artwork that I have bought from you?

I will always advise to frame an original artwork in an archival frame. An archival frame limits the exposure of the artwork to humidity, temperature, light and dust in order to reduce signs of aging, however it could be costly to custom frame. I would recommend framing a fine art print in a gallery style frame made of natural wood or that has a matt white finish. Aesthetically, I adore floating frames that add heaps of breathing space to any artwork.
